A Season of Drought

Hello Everyone!

My dad is a blueberry farmer. Every year, he replaces some of the older, dead plants with new plants he has rooted. To do this, he takes cuttings of 3-4 inches and inserts them into a template placed on the soil in a propagation bed to create even spacing allowing the roots room to form and grow.

While the cuttings are in the bed, a constant mist of water is applied for about 12 hours a day for the first few weeks and then decreased gradually. After a few months, when the cuttings have begun to form roots, the water is turned off. In essence, they are forced into a drought!

The drought conditions force the plant's roots to spread out in search of moisture, creating a stronger root system that is more vigorous and able to absorb nutrients that sustain the plant when transplanted.

Our lives are like a blueberry plant. When we are in a "dry season" or drought, our search for the moisture of the "Living Water" will allow our lives, or "root system" to grow more vigorous and be able to withstand the elements we face from day to day!

Are you in a drought or "dry season"? Allow your "roots" to spread out into God's Word and search for the refreshing moisture of "Living Water".
Psalm 63:1
O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.

Be Encouraged!

Thank you so much for your stories they are such an inspiration to me.
As I have said, this is such a difficult time of the year, living in the mountains yet knowing spring is already here in so many other areas. My fingers are itching to dig in the moist rested soil. Today it is snowing, again, and as thankful as I am for the moisture it is hard to wait. I know a good plant lady story could come out of this time of waiting much as the blueberry season of draught so thank you,
God bless

What a great word picture! I try to stay very "hydrated" in the Lord. It gets kinda hard with young kids. I have a 15 month old and a 4 yr old. This bible study was an answer to prayer! I have wanted to get into the word but never knew where to start. So this is a new start for me. Thanks for your wonderful stories and memories!

What a wonderful story/devotional.
No wonder Jesus used so many parables. They give such true insight to deeper meanings.
I was drawn to the words, "forced into a drought." And my heart was touched and the following came to my mind:

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

And then the words to the beautiful song, "Trust His Heart"

God is to wise to be mistaken
God is to good to be unkind.
So when you don't understand,
When you don't see His plan
When you can't trace His hand,
trust His heart.

Katrina,
Thanks for stopping by! Today, here in North Carolina, it was around 70 degrees. I would love to be in Colorado to see the snow! Here, near the coast of North Carolina, we rarely get snow, and then, only a few inches that melts quickly. Hardly enough for a decent snowman!

I have never been to Colorado. I just love to visit the mountains of North Carolina and I imagine they are almost like the ones in Colorado, only smaller. I enjoy hearing about your hobbies like skiing, etc. I have never been, even to the slopes in NC. It's probably for the best, though, I would likely come away with all kinds of broken bones! Ha! Ha!

I've enjoyed talking with you. I keep looking to see if you have started your blog, but haven't seen one as of yet. Let me know when you do as I would like to come over for a visit.

Blessings!

Christi,
You sound busy with a 15 month old and a 4 year old! I can imagine you would need a break for some personal time with God! It is such a joy to be involved with this Bible Study and I have learned so much more with the interaction with others than I would have just studying by myself.

Thanks for the visit! Talk to you again later.

Hi Plant Lady,
Hope you're having a nice day. My husband & I are at the coast for a marriage retreat. We just took a walk on the beach at Cannon Beach Oregon.
