The View From My Kitchen Window - Pt. 1

Hello Everyone!

This will begin a short series of posts that I'm going to call, "The View From My Kitchen Window." Not all of the photos and stories came "from the view through my kitchen window," but I am using that term to describe the "world" around me, as seen through my eyes.

For some time, I have been thinking about this series of posts, but was unsure as to whether or not I should do them. Each time I thought of another type of post, I kept coming back to this. So here goes!

The world around me is so great and vast! There are sights and sounds that make me dizzy. So much clamoring for attention - always somewhere to go, some chore to do, bills to pay, "needy people" who really aren't needy at all, etc. How can anyone be expected to accomplish all that is demanded? By now, I guess you think I am talking about myself! Yes, myself and millions of other people as well!

My life, if put under a microscope, has no problems at all! I am healthy, many are not. I have a roof over my head, many do not. I am able to walk around, many have no legs or are confined to a wheelchair or bed. I have a loving husband, many are abused by the person who vowed to "love and cherish." I have a little savings, many do not have two coins to rub together. I complain about being a little "chubby," while many are starving. I wonder what outfit in my closet best fits my mood today, many have only those on their back.

Sights around me abound - crime, hatred, perversion, evil of all sorts! All clamoring for my attention. . . . . . .YET. . . . . . other sights also abound - compassion, love, morality, good of all sorts! There is a choice! It is all in your perspective! You can CHOOSE to focus on "whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." (Philippians 4:8)

God has placed delightful sights and sounds around us if we can get our minds focused on them! Look out your kitchen window while you are doing the never-ending chore of dish washing. Ask God to help you focus on the delights of His creation, right outside your window. He will reveal His world! A world that the enemy does not want you to see.

This is the world that He reveals to me when I FOCUS on it!

hi plant lady,
i was just thinking about this the other day. how truely blessed i am!! there are so many people around the world that have nothing like you said. i am healthy, i have family, i am not alone in this world, i have a roof over my head, i have parents that are alive and well, i have never lost a sibling, or a precious child. i have never been abused. the list goes on.

please Lord help me remember and to be grateful for my blessed life and to pray for those who have have some of these stuggles in their own lifes.

I, too, have been thinking about this a lot lately. In this hectic "rat race" we live in, it is easy to become "blind" to all the blessings God gives us.

By the way, we will be leaving Friday to go to the mountains for my birthday. We will be back Sunday night. I have given my birthday wish list to Mr. Plant Lady - a digital camera I can use to take photos and then transfer to my computer. I'm not very "tech saavy", but I guess I'll learn how to use it. It will beat going to Wal-Mart to have a CD of photos made from regular film. I keep them in business, it seems!

How are Maggie and Billy, are they enjoying the summer fun? Hi, to them also!

You are absolutely right-perspective is a choice. Our feet will usually follow our vision so we need to focus on God's blessings to arrive at a blessed destination.

I love it. I have been close to homeless, I've been verbaly abused, (1st Marriage) and now I have the best most wonderful life. And I am so very very thankful. Good post, glad God placed it in your heart. So Birthday huh? Well I hope you have an awesome time and get your camera. If I was there I'd treat you to a pedicure, or massage so if ever we meet up you remind me of this and I will gladly redeem the raincheck. Happy Birthday my friend. Have a great trip.

Good Morning!
Here I am trying to do several things in a short span of time. I am expecting my brother and sister-in-law this afternoon, flying in from WV.
But I did want to give comment on "The View From My Kitchen Window" A great start! I'm looking forward to "the view" you will bring to us "from your kitchen window"
I share many of your thoughts on Part I and can become bogged down when thinking about all those that have so little in life. Yet as you said, we have a choice of what we focus our thoughts on. I will endeavor to do that and trust that God will show me along the path those whom I might help as I travel on.

Hello Plantlady,
So right on. I struggle with this daily. It is a choice of navel gazing or lifting our head to Jesus.
It seems the busier that i become the more bent over I am.
well I hope that you have a wonderful birthday. What a gift life is and to celebrate another year of living under Gods grace.
Mr Plant lady--hope you got the camera. They are very easy to use and download and save so much money. You'll wonder why you didn't get one sooner.
I'm with Lynn in that if we all ever meet we'll have to have a girls spa day celebrating life and birthday's.

A great post. It's sorta goes along with the one I did on "peace" (God Bless You).

You are not getting feeds from my homepage because I copied and pasted on of my first post and Internet Explorer does not recognized Word documents. I have written Blogger about this but never got an answer. I took the post off but it did not change the feeds. When you click on the blue fromtheheart that I use when commenting it should take you to a page that says From the Heart Blogs. Where that came from I don't know, but click on those words which will take you to my Profile. Update your feeds on that page or you can update on the page that has From the Heart Blogs. When you go to fromtheheart you can click on From the Heart and it will take you to my blogpage. Now I know that's clear as mud, but it's the only way I know to tell you. Also in Layout on your blog when you sign in to customize go to Page Elements. They have put a new Link page where you can add those you visit and you can change the names also. You can also ask for latest update on each one. Look down the sidebar of my blog and you will see mine. Hope this helps.
